Early Intervension Orthodontics

As soon as growth of the face and jaws deviates away from what is genetically optimal for an individual, it is important to identify the cause and endeavour to correct this. If this is achieved, it will reduce the need for more extensive orthodontic treatment as the child matures. Unfortunately, many people have been told to wait until all permanent teeth erupt before undertaking any form of orthodontic assessment, however by this stage, much of the growth of the face and jaws has already completed and the treatment will be much more involved. Early assessment and management is critical. Call us to arrange an appointment to assess your child’s needs.

Myofunctional Pre-Orthodontics

Pre-orthodontic treatment can commence in the primary dentition using removable appliances and exercises to optimise swallowing and oral posture. If treatment commences early it is often possible to avoid braces once the permanent teeth erupt. At Snowy Mountains Dental, we use a variety of different appliances and tailor-make each program to the individual patient needs. Appliances that we use include Myomunchee, Myobrace, Biobloc Orthotropics and clear aligners (Invisalign).

Myofunctional Therapy

Myofunctional therapy involves management of soft tissue dysfunction of the face, lips, cheeks and tongue. It can be used to improve rest, oral/facial posture, swallowing, tongue thrusting, lip seal, chewing, snoring/sleep apnoea and breathing. A customised program of exercises is formulated to address specific problems for each patient. Successful outcomes can improve breathing and sleep as well as optimise the development of the face and jaws with straighter teeth and a more beautiful smile.

Snoring and Sleep Apnoea

Snoring occurs when the upper airway begins to relax and close during sleep. If severe enough, it can completely block the airway causing a condition called sleep apnoea. This is a serious condition that is most commonly associated with snoring and can lead to many adverse health consequences such as high blood pressure, obesity, fatigue, brain fog, learning difficulties, memory loss and ADHD. Snoring or heavy breathing in children is not normal. At Snowy Mountains Dental, we can help adults and children to access the care that they need in order to improve their sleep.

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

TMJ dysfunction can be a debilitating condition that manifests with symptoms including headaches, jaw clicking/locking, ringing in the ears or ear pain, clenching/grinding, face/neck/back pain or tooth pain. The jaws can be difficult to open or close and this can often cause difficulties with chewing. This condition is often associated with sleep disturbances, nasal obstruction or snoring and a multi-disciplinary approach is often required to treat patients optimally. Ask us how we can help.

Dental implants are often the best way to replace a missing tooth. A titanium fixture is placed into the site and once it has healed, a crown can be attached to restore function and aesthetics. Implants can also be used to help secure loose dentures or replace bridges. Call us to schedule an appointment to discuss options to suit you.

Metal-Free Restorations

At Snowy Mountains Dental, we will not use any restorations that contain heavy metals. The practice has been amalgam free for many years and whilst amalgam was the best material in its day, there are far superior options available now. Talk to us about removal of old discoloured fillings and upgrading them to beautiful, long-lasting metal-free restorations.

Preventive Dentistry

We provide services to address the full spectrum of dental conditions from prevention of dental decay and gum disease to custom made sports mouth guards. We are equipped to see the entire family from infants through to adults.

A main preventive focus of our practice is to help children to establish better breathing, sleeping, swallowing and chewing function as early as possible.  If this is achieved, the development of the brain, face and jaws can be optimised.

Our dedicated and enthusiastic team are all members of the community and as such
focus highly on the treatment and care they provide.
Each member strives for excellence in care and customer service.
We are here for you.

Opened the practice 2003

Yuli was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and her family migrated to Brisbane when she was an infant. She completed her schooling there. After gaining a Queensland Health Scholarship to study at The University of Queensland, she graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours in 1997.

She then spent two years in Bundaberg and it is here that she started refining her skills in orthodontics, paediatric dentistry and oral surgery. She moved to the area in 2000 and took over Snowy Mountains Dental in 2003. Yuli has completed many courses in airway focused orthopaedics, orthodontics and craniofacial pain. In her practice, she aims to help patients to holistically prevent disease and optimise their health.

Outside dentistry, Yuli is a retired snowboard and ski instructor and previously worked at Thredbo, Vail and Beaver Creek. She still enjoys the snow and being in the great outdoors doing mountain biking, rock climbing and hiking with her family. Most of all, she loves being a Mum.

Yuli is also fascinated by the benefits of using breathing techniques to optimise well-being and she enjoys practising yoga regularly.

Yuli welcomes new and existing patients to the practice and is thrilled to be part of this wonderful community.
